The collar drag exploits a fundamental principle of human movement: when your upper body is pulled forward, your feet must catch up or you fall. By gripping the collar and dragging it diagonally — across your body and down — you rotate the opponent's shoulder past their centerline. This creates a brief moment where their back is fully exposed and their feet are out of position. The technique works from guard because opponents are often posted forward on their hands. From standing, it works against any forward pressure.
